Purpose and Structure of Holy Spirit’s School Commission

The primary purpose of Holy Spirit’s School Commission is to serve as a consultative and advisory body to the local parish pastor and school principal regarding the operation, planning, and policy of the parish school.

Unlike public school boards that hold final governing or taxing authority, Catholic school commissions operate under the authority of the local parish and the Archdiocese of Indianapolis (see Archdiocese of Indianapolis Board/Commission Resources).

At Holy Spirit, we seek a diverse group of active parishioners and school representatives who help us on our continuous improvement journey by aligning our practices to those identified in the National Standards and Benchmarks of Effective Elementary and Secondary Catholic Schools (NSBECS), focusing on four domains: Catholic Identity/Mission, Leadership/Governance, Academic Excellence, and Operational Vitality.

If you are interested in learning more about Holy Spirit’s School Commission or volunteering to serve on the commission or one of its committees, please reach out to the parish school principal.
